Would be nice to have a way to go back to the home screen of the phone when entering an app - I haven't been able to find one and have to close the phone and open it again.

Click the home button at the bottom of the phone, it works

Do you mean from the apps that go full screen, like the journal and stuff? This is actually a good idea.
